About The Candidate
Peter J. Sala was born, raised and educated in Erie, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Peter D. and Ann Downing Sala. Peter D. Sala passed away when Pete was 6 years old. But Pete’s mother, Ann, dedicated her life to raising Pete and his brother (Mas) and sister (Mary). Pete attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Strong Vincent High School and Gannon University, where he graduated in 1991. Pete worked his way through school at Al’s Awning Shop. Each step taught him the value of family, community and hard work. Upon graduating Gannon, Pete attended Cleveland-Marshall College of Law where he served as Managing Editor of the Law Review, the premier legal publication for the law school. He oversaw the editing and publishing of numerous legal articles of law students, professors and lawyers.
Upon graduating law school in the Spring of 1994, Pete began his legal career as an Erie County judicial law clerk in May. While working, Pete studied for and passed the Pennsylvania Bar Exam in July. As a law clerk, he worked on numerous civil and criminal cases that gave him keen insight into the fundamental practice of law. In September of 1995, Pete entered private practice as a solo practitioner. In December of 1997, Pete became the Erie County Sheriff’s Solicitor for now retired Sheriff Bob Merski. Pete continued as the Sheriff’s Solicitor for the recently retired John Loomis and the current Sheriff, Chris Campanelli. In 2023, Pete will be entering his 26th year as the Erie County Sheriff’s Solicitor.
During his over 28 years as a lawyer, Pete has represented well over a thousand clients all over the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in a variety of legal matters. He has handled civil and criminal cases as well as estate, real estate and family law cases. His first jury trial was in 1996 and he has continued to represent citizens throughout Pennsylvania including a case in Potter County that resulted in a not guilty verdict in August of 2020. Pete has successfully briefed and argued cases before every appellate Court in Pennsylvania. These include the Pennsylvania Superior Court, the Commonwealth Court and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Pete’s extensive appellate experience has given him a unique understanding of the expectations placed upon a Trial Court Judge by the Appellate Courts of Pennsylvania.
Pete is also active in the Erie Community. He is a member of the Erie County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Pete is a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Church where he is the Past-President and Board member of the Blessed Sacrament Ushers Society. Pete is also the Past-President and current Scholarship Chairman of the Erie Wolves Club.
Most importantly, Pete has been married to Jennifer Sala for almost 28 years. They have been blessed with three amazing children; Brendan, Celeste and Autumn. Pete’s family is the backbone of his life. He understands the importance of family and the responsibilities that parents have to their children. Pete enjoys spending his free time with his family.
